Why do I need an Air Purifier in the Winter?

With the number of hours spent indoors skyrocketing during the winter months, it’s important to improve the indoor air quality of your home. Pollen is still lurking on the ground outdoors and can easily travel indoors through an open door or window, along with another allergen that thrives in moist conditions — mould. Additionally, there can be a build-up of unwanted dust, bugs and mites that can impede your ability to be comfortable in your own space.

Here are a few noteworthy examples of what winter can throw your way.

  • According to the American Thoracic Society, emergency clinic admissions for asthma increase when indoor heating is used at the beginning of the fall season, due to build-up of dust inside the furnace.
  • Pollen and mould accumulate on fallen leaves and compost piles over winter. Even leaving a window open for some ‘fresh air’ can cause allergic reactions including coughing and restricted breathing.
  • Bed bugs might be the worst of all. These insects thrive during colder months when more time is spent indoors. They feed off shed skin and leave microscopic feces, causing skin irritations and other negative reactions.

Trail Recommends:

To protect your loved ones against poor indoor air quality and resulting allergens, Trail recommends IQAir Air Purifiers.

IQAir’s Health Pro Plus and Perfect 16 Whole-House Air Purifier can help eliminate unwanted airborne particles. While many air purifiers can filter particles larger than 0.3 microns, the IQAir-patented HyperHEPA filter can filter particles as small as 0.003 microns. The difference? Pet dander and dust mite allergens are approximately 0.1 microns, small enough to go undetected by a regular filter.
